boat fender diaries; postcard from Collioure Languedoc Roussillon
Postcard from the Languedoc #2
Greetings from Collioure.
The sun has got his hat on, and so have we here at boatshedsudmed in the sunny South of France!
Wedding invite of the year for Phil and Floss Fender along with boatshedsudmed brokers Jill and Kevin Roach.
Best bib and tucker for a stunning marriage at the Fort Saint Elme above Collioure here in the Pyrenees Orientale close to Perpignan. It is a military Fort built around 1540 by Charles V and stands guard over the beautiful Mediterranean harbour. Originally the seat of the Kings of Majorca you can understand why they wanted to make this their holiday home.I would too. Oops! Forgot; we have!
Gorgeous sandy beaches that stretch from the port of Argeles sur mer in one long sandy crescent, right along to the Camargue, interspersed with bustling marinas along the way. On our patch Collioure attracts visiting yachts and trip boats, anchored off in the shadow of the chateau. Once ashore there are the delicious Collioure wines from the vine covered hills to taste and yummy fresh seafood straight from the boat. Collioure is famous for its anchovy trade and has several shops in town where you can try and buy these delicious salty tiddlers.
A traditional dish here in the South is the " Pissaladière"; a sort of pizza which originated from Nice in Southern France. A bread base with a topping generally consisting of caramelised onions, olives, garlic and local anchovies. Perfect for a picnic on the beach.
A fantastic reception was held at “The Neptune” restaurant in Collioure, frequented for its beautiful harbourside setting as well as its delicious menu. If we carry on wining and dining like this we shall need deflating a bit!
We boogied the night away under the stars accompanied by a fab live band, Captains of Industry from Liverpool who flew in as part of the wedding party and entertained us on the balmy Mediterranean evening.
Yachts at anchor in the bay and Mount Canigou rising majestically behind. What more could a fender ask for?
Publicity shots by the Boatshedsudmed van and then home to Banyuls sur mer to get poolside.
What a drag!
Bisous (xxx)
